Adoption, Early Trauma, and Service Animals: Bilbo’s Surgery Feb 3rd

Feb. 3, 2023: Surgical Consult with Dr. Tibor Lazar.
Today we went to a consult in preparation for Bilbo’s surgery scheduled on Monday. Dr. Lazar is board certified veterinarian. He earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1996 from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1997, he completed a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. In 2003, he earned board certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Following a year of private practice in Manhattan, Dr. Lazar moved to Maitland, Florida, and spent four years in a small animal surgery internship and residency at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists.
Dr. Lazar explained the TPLO procedure and Bilbo’s CCL injury. Most of these injuries are fairly unexplained as to how it was done. The bad news is that 40% of these will need another on the other hind leg – of course, there is a 60% chance he won’t need another procedure. The good news is that when they x-rayed Bilbo, he showed no problems with his hip joints, the other leg, or spine! I’m hanging on to that 60%!
