Karen Synesiou is a pioneering leader in the field of gestational surrogacy and third-party reproduction, and the longtime co-founder of the Center for Surrogate Parenting (CSP)—one of the earliest and most respected surrogacy agencies in the United States.
Since helping establish CSP in 1986 alongside attorney William Handel, Ms. Synesiou has played a central role in shaping ethical, structured surrogacy programs that support both intended parents and surrogate mothers. Her work has contributed to the development of best practices in matching, screening, and case management within a field that remains largely unregulated in many states.
With decades of experience, Karen Synesiou has guided thousands of surrogacy journeys and has been part of the creation of more than 1,400 families. She is widely respected for her compassionate, hands-on approach and her commitment to ensuring that all parties are supported throughout the emotional, medical, and legal complexities of the process.
Today, Ms. Synesiou remains associated with CSP in a leadership and advisory capacity, continuing to contribute to the organization’s legacy of ethical care and coordinated support.
